This summer I had the opportunity to be a camp counselor for 5 weeks. It was quite a challenge most [well ALL] days, but it was worth it and it was something I am glad I got to do. I was working with 11-12 year old girls. One of the things we 'had' to do every night was lead our girls in devotions. This was such an important time to me, 30 minutes of the day I valued and took the most serious. Not all of the girls were saved, and so it was sometimes kind of hard to figure out where they were coming from. On the opening night [they were there either 2 or 4 weeks] I asked them to write down some things they wanted to know about or questions they had. I wasn't sure what kinds of things would come up with each particular group because by day it was hard to pull them away from talks about MySpace, hair straighteners, boys, and occasionally a little bit about family or friends back home. One night, which happened to be my favorite because it ended up taking two nights was our talk on Heaven. I asked the girls to draw a picture of what they thought Heaven looked like. One picture resembled a neighborhood. One nothing but the Lord standing on clouds surrounded by clouds. Some with a huge gate and light beams coming from behind. One a huge house in the middle with Jesus on a throne and trees and people around it. I began to explain to the girls that while Scripture doesn't tell us everything about Heaven it does tell us somethings. We can be sure there is perfection and on sin there. I read from Matthew and from Revelation 21. I told them that we can be confident that Heaven is real and that because of this confidence we have a reason to live. Christianity is for real and faith is for real.
Today, Aaron gave an amazing message on Heaven. I want to draw the picture I now have of Heaven. I want to live my life knowing that when I die I am going to somewhere so much better, I am going to eternal love, joy, and praise of the Savior. The water of life that flows from His throne....water that makes all things live. AquaVitae means water of life. I love the symbolism and the image of a river flowing through Heaven, that begins at the throne of God and that brings LIFE wherever it flows. HOW MUCH WE HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO!! HOW GREAT THAT WILL BE! Hallelujah!
