I was over at my friend Robert's apartment and Brittany, Chris, and I were all sitting outside with Robert because they smoke and we were sitting out on the steps. Well, I don't mean to be stereotypical, but this apartment complex is shady. All of the residents are very clearly poor and into drugs and various things. Well as most of you may know, I am pursing a job in counseling with an emphasis on drug and alcohol abuse. We're sitting there and my heart is breaking. First off, I just had this thought that I hate how Christian people don't follow through when they are uncomfortable. Because, I'll be honest, I was. I didn't fit in this area and I didn't feel completely protected. We're sitting there and a guy named Michael comes upstairs and we all begin to talk. We had a nice conversation and somewhere in the mix I began to talk about my calling, etc. Well fast forward for lack of a lot of details that don't exactly matter, this woman a couple apartments down ends up coming outside. As soon as I see her, I know she is bound by addiction. She says she heard me talking and felt something inside of her tell her to come out and talk to me (thank you, Holy Spirit!!) and I began to talk to her. Well she had been a prostitute and was bound by drugs and alcohol. I began to tell her deliverance was possible for her and she just kept saying, you believe it's possible even for me? And I told her about how God did small things, but God also did drastic things. I shared the story of Hosea in the Bible and of Rahab. A few minutes later, she says "I'll be right back, something has to be done!"...She walks out with 3 bags full of bottles/cans/drugs/etc. And we all go with her to toss it into the dumpster. HALLELUJAH, PRAISE BE TO THE SAVIOR. She was delivered from the bondage of substance and I tell you what.....sharing the gospel with her and praying and you know......the angels rejoice.....
